Specification

The R107 SL Mercedes was built from 1971 until 1989, even by Mercedes standard this was an impressively long production run and speaks volumes for the appeal of this car over the best part of 20 years.

The vast majority of the cars were automatics and had a wide range of engines, starting with the 2.8 litre six cylinder and ending with the 5.6 litre V8 which never came to Europe. The suspension was a double wishbone at the front and swing axle at the rear, however these cars were never setup to be flat cornering sports cars more boulevard cruisers. The fact that they didn't try to keep pace with the sports cars of the time probably at least partly explains their longevity and appeal now.

The R107 SL along with the 911 probably best epitomise the 80s era of consumption.

Model History

Unfortunately we don't have a great deal of history for this car, other than it spent the last 5 years of its life in Denver, Colorado.

Vehicle History

Overall the interior of this car is in excellent condition, finished in black leather with black carpets, the seats have been recently restored back to their original condition. The wood dash cappings are in good condition, the stereo has also been upgraded.

The carpets and door cards are in excellent condition and all look to be original

. The only thing that stops this interior being perfect is a split on the top of the dashboard, unfortunately this is quite common when the car has lived in a hot, dry climate.

Interior

Exterior

This car really hides its age well, the paint, chrome and wheels all look great. The red paint has a nice lustre to it, as is to be expected it does have a few minor scratches that have been touched up over the last 30 years. However they don't detract from the overall quality of the exterior.

The chrome and rubber all appear to be original and are all in really good condition.

The original wheels and tyres are in fabulous condition belying their age.

The matching hardtop is also in very nice condition and helps to make this very much an all year round car.
